Mapping of Global Research Output in Webometrics during 2011-2020:
a scientometric analysis

This study aims to investigate the research publications on webometrics from 2011 to 2020 indexed in Scopus at global, national, institutional, and author levels as no study is discovered to analyze the publications on Webometrics. Webometrics is a very trending area of research in the field of library and information science that came into prominence at the beginning of the 21 st century with the internet revolution and enormous research has been going on it since its inception. The bibliographic data of the publications in the period were retrieved from Scopus using suitable search terms, excluding the irrelevant subjects which, gave data of 1202 publications. This data is analyzed using MS-Excel and visualized with the efficient tool visualization tool VOSViewer. The findings reveal that India is a leading nation in this field following China (1 st ) and the USA (2 nd ). The University of Wolverhampton is a prolific institution and a faculty of the same institution Professor Mike Thewall is the most cited author. Moreover, the trending areas of research discovered in recent years are altmetrics, big data, sentiment analysis, social media analysis, learning algorithms, game theory. As no study has been encountered to conduct any form of review using bibliometric or scientometric parameters, this study finds importance, novelty, and originality.
