Abstract

Cinemas help to show and inform the mass about any particular topic in interesting ways. This could be the possible reason why present-day movies are very much realistic and based on true events so that people of every stratum can have a proper outlook of the futurist world. Whereas libraries, museums and archives are the most traditional and reliable information centres since the beginning of human civilization. These centres started to develop when people learned to know how to keep records of their past. Keeping in view the mass appeal of cinema and the importance of archives, this study has attempted to explore the role of archival information in Indian cinemas. It also tries to focus on the consciousness created among people about archives through their presentations in cinemas. To conduct this an exhaustive literature search on the related theme along the databases of Indian cinemas has been done. The contents of the Indian cinemas having references to archives have been critically analysed. It is found that some Indian cinemas have very beautifully depicted how archival records helped the protagonist to reach the ultimate goal. This sends a strong message to the mass about the true value of archival information resulting in increasing interest in them.
