Abstract

Altmetrics is a popular study these days. Several studies on altmetrics details have been published. In this paper, the lacuna of altmetrics studies and role of librarians to disseminate altmetric services in Indian libraries to deliver high-impact scholarly papers have been  discussed. A survey was conducted (via online mode) among librarians/library professionals/teachers of Library and Information Science (LIS) of higher education institutions across India. It has been discovered that the majority of librarians understand the distinction between traditional metrices and altmetrics. They have some theoretical knowledge of bibliographic and altmetric tools acquired through study or webinar/online courses. The majority of librarians agreed that they play a significant role in the dissemination of altmetrics. It is also investigated whether there is a link between altmetrics awareness and LIS faculty and non-faculty staff. Except in a few cases, the results show that faculty members are more aware of altmetric tools.
