Abstract

A library management system is an application designed to help librarians in organizing documents in the library. In the past few decades, the Traditional Library Management System (TLMS) has not changed significantly but at present the new Library Management System (LMS) is acting as a tool to transform traditional libraries into digital libraries. So, after the development of the
Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC) standards by the Library of Congress in the 1960s the scenario is gradually changing. Now technology is changing very rapidly hence it is very important for librarians to keep on converting the existing digitized documents to the latest available formats (Banu, & Modak, 2018). Hence, traditional libraries are trying to introduce Library Management Software (LMS) on the basis of the availability of funds and converting their libraries from traditional to hybrid in nature but not in digital form. In this context, this article discusses enormously on the traditional library and its collections, their organizational procedures and using management tools along with their advantages and disadvantages.
